  Thallus 3–8 cm wide, adnate, smooth, dull, grey to greenish grey, with distinct white raised areas, to 0.2 mm thick; isidia and globose granules absent. Prothallus distinct, mainly of interwoven hyphae, whitish or pale grey to black. Photobiont cells solitary or a few cells aggregated, 7–15 × 5–10 μm. Medulla distinct, white. Ascigerous parts common, distinct, delimited, white, faveolate, 2–10 mm long, 2–8 mm wide, spread throughout the thallus. Asci weakly aggregated, 8-spored, with a dome-shaped extension of the endoascus. Ascospores ovate, straight or slightly curved, often broader in the centre, 50–75 × 20–25 μm. Pycnidia not seen.
CHEMISTRY: Thallus K–, C+ red, KC+ red, P–, UV+ pale grey-white; containing gyrophoric acid (major), confluentic acid (major), lecanoric acid (trace).
     
  Occurs on bark and leaves in montane rainforest in north-eastern Qld and in monsoon vine forest in the N.T.; also in India.
